![]() ![]() JAX™ is a trademark of The Jackson Laboratory registered in the United States. Note: Only The Jackson Laboratory and Charles River in Europe and Japan maintain colonies of JAX™ Mice strains which are derived from pedigreed mice from The Jackson Laboratory and are re-infused routinely with pedigreed mice to stabilise the genetic integrity and phenotype of these strains. ![]() Ideal for: General multipurpose model, diet-induced obesity, transgenic/knockout model development, safety and efficacy testing, immunology Macrophages from this strain are resistant to the effects of anthrax lethal toxin. They are also susceptible to diet-induced obesity, type 2 diabetes, and atherosclerosis. C57BL/6J mice are resistant to audiogenic seizures, have a relatively low bone density, and develop age related hearing loss (this strain is homozygous for Cdh23 ahl). Although this strain is refractory to many tumors, it is a permissive background for maximal expression of most mutations. ![]() Breeding is in accordance with The Jackson Laboratory genetic management system.Ĭ57BL/6J is the most widely used inbred strain and the first to have its genome sequenced. It was introduced into The Jackson Laboratory in 1948, at F22, then to Charles River Laboratories France in 1981 and UK in 2004. Little in 1921, after crossing the female N.57 with the male N.52 from a commercial breeding centre in the United States (Miss Abby Lathrop). Origin: The C57BL/6 mouse was developed by C.C. ![]()
